WHAT TO DO Whale watching Where:  ea World S Gold Coast, Queensland Out on the open sea, the waves rock the boat high and the wind can be fierce as you cruise out to watch some of the most majestic creatures thrive in their natural element. Some whales will come right up to the boat, some days they will keep to themselves; you never know what to expect when you venture out on the Sea World Whale Watch Expedition. The day of my Whale Watching journey, the whales weren’t overly intrigued by our boat, but seeing them swim alongside us was truly a beautiful thing. As we sat out in the ocean off the shore of Main Beach, engines were cut, and we waited. We waited for a hint of movement, a break in the ocean surface. Everyone on the boat waiting in quiet anticipation, a whale presented itself with an explosion from its blow hole. We saw many blows, tail slaps and breaches, but sadly no up close and personal visits from the whales. Southern Humpback Whales are drawn to the Gold Coast during the colder months of the year, making winter the prime whale watching season.
