‘Music can come from anywhere.
You don’t have to think, just create.’

‘Digger’s Overture’ – Hosted on SoundCloud.com
After talking with Applied Media student Nathan Warfe about his journey trying to break into the music industry,
he introduced me to his composition ‘Digger’s Overture’, an orchestral piece inspired by the reveille or bugle call,
The Last Post.
Nathan composed this piece by taking a simple line of a tune and filling it out with wind and string instruments
creating an entire orchestral piece. Even though computer generated music has become quite sophisticated in recent
years, music artists can tell when it is digitally constructed, so Nathan is currently sourcing an orchestra for recording.
Music is supposed to tell a story, and ‘Digger’s Overture’ can be considered a symphonic poem, building highs and
lows, and if you close your eyes you will be taken on an emotional journey through conflict and peace. Towards
the end of the piece, notes from ‘The Last Post’ sound among the power of the orchestra and it brings the whole
composition to a close.
Give ‘Digger’s Overture’ a listen in honour of our heroes this ANZAC Day.
