music Originally from Toowoomba, Sixth League are a 4-piece grunge punk band situated in Brisbane. I personally really like this band as they have a somewhat gritty, raw sound featuring plenty of rocking guitars and showing a soft side as well with their emotional lyrics. A sound from bands I’ve found myself more partial to in recent years as opposed to music that is overly produced on a computer. Listening to their EP Beyond Blue is an interesting experience as it intentionally leads you through stages of depression but culminates in a much more positive light. I’ve found myself listening to the EP twice in a row on some occasions and the songs continue to pop up in my head days later. Although it’s safe to say that the majority of their songs have found a home on my iPhone, the tracks that stand out the most to me are Sourdough, Vulnerable and Gabbinbar. Seeing the band perform live at a local Toowoomba event supporting the Toowoomba Depression Network in January was suitably fitting. I really liked the way the band brought a sense of serious SIXTH LEAGUE FACEBOOK musicianship but also some seemingly reluctant showmanship. I definitely recommend checking out their work on their Bandcamp page or seeing them live if you’re a fan of rock, punk or metal. The band are currently working on their next release so it’s exciting to know that it could potentially be out by the end of the year.
