1) She's not actually French. Hidalgo is from the Spanish province of Cadiz, which is the only town that didn't surrender to the French during Napoleon's attempted occupation in 1810
2) She loves the environment. Hidalgo wants to expand Parisian transportation programs such as Scootelib', a free moped system. She has been a constant advocate for more pedestrian pathways and green spaces.
3) Her wardrobe is modest. Hidalgo understands the major impact has on the Fashion industry, yet she intends to keep her appearance strictly business. In an interview with WWD, Hidalgo stated, "I am an elected official, not a model. I like a subdued style, not bling-bling."
4) She's one of a few. Hidalgo is on an unfortunately small list of women that lead major cities throughout the world. She is joined by Ana Botella of Madrid, Patricia de Lille of Cape Town, and Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz of Warsaw.
