Hepatitis Awareness Month
Every May advocates in the United States celebrate Hepatitis Awareness
Month and National Hepatitis Testing Day on 19 May. The month long
campaign aims to raise much needed awareness of viral hepatitis among the
public and encourage people to come forward for testing. WHA members
across the United States marked the occasion:
National Hepatitis Testing Day - USA
• WHA member HBI-Minnesota celebrated Hepatitis Awareness Month
by visiting the Hmong Cultural Center where they educated and tested
students for hepatitis B. They also featured on a special broadcast on
Hmong-FM Radio.
• WHA member San Francisco HepC Task Force spent National Hepatitis
Testing Day offering free HIV and hepatitis C tests at Mission Wellness
Pharmacy.
• WHA member Liver Health Connection tested 140 people for hepatitis
C in locations including Grand Junction, Fort Collins, Pueblo, Colorado
Springs and multiple metro stations in Denver.
• WHA member Climbing for Carleen organised free hepatitis C testing in
Colorado as well as climbing Manitou Incline to raise awareness of the
importance of getting tested.
• WHA Executive Board Member for the Americas Region Su Wang
hosted a programme at the Center for Asian Health on hepatitis B that
provided information on the virus, fatty liver and complications as well as
transmission risks, diagnosis and treatment. Free hepatitis B testing was
also provided and NOhep was used throughout the activities.
