We wanted to honor those commitments.” July 19 is a Friday, and while many couples choose midweek weddings because of cost, Sydney has a special reason for this day. July 19 was my grandfather’s birthday, and to be able to get married on a date that belonged to someone who was so precious to me makes it even more special,” Sydney said. With both families being from Hendricks County, they have tried to keep all providers local, including the flowers, bridal party din- ner and wedding dress. “We began wedding dress shopping in Jamestown because Jake is from there,” Gretchen said. “They were so friendly and easy to work with. I thought we would have to go to Indianapolis, but Jessica’s on Main had such variety it was fantastic. Sydney found her dress almost immediately. And I really liked how they worked with us. We gave them the budget at the beginning, and she only brought dresses out that were within budget. They also recommended a woman for alterations who has taken my mom’s wedding veil and incorporated it into Sydney’s dress.” “My dress is even more beautiful because she added my grandma’s flowers into the detail work,” Sydney said. “It makes me so happy that she will be part of my day, though she has passed.” Details are important in wedding planning, and one of the most important details at their wedding is food. “My husband has celiac disease, and so it was necessary that we work with vendors who would accommodate our requests,” Gretchen said. “I think food is more of a challenge these days because you need to think about your guests’ needs, whatever they may be; celiac, vegetarian, children with picky tastes.” The Petrunichs selected their caterer from a preferred vendors list offered by their venue. “We have a large wedding guest list with 175 people attending,” Gretchen said. “It was nice that the event coordinator at the Golf Club of Indiana (GCI) could help us narrow our options before we started calling caterers. You aren’t really sure what you will get when you look companies up, but the venue has worked with these vendors and they can say with certainty they provide quality services.” | 21 SAY-YES-TO-THE-DRESS AN- NOUNCEMENTS are a popular way for brides to announce they have selected their gown, as Sydney and mom Gretchen Petrunich display here. In sticking with the all-American theme, the Petrunichs selected a barbeque buffet. “I am excited about the food,” Sydney said. “Not only do we have every kind of barbeque, including pulled pork that’s amazing, we have a delicious macaroni and cheese dish.” The mother daughter duo recommends The Knot, an online wedding planner that helps couples organize and plan their wedding. Ser- vices include planning tools, online reviews, timelines and a gift registry. “Technology has been very helpful in plan- ning my wedding,” Sydney said. “I love using The Knot because their reviews are honest and helpful.” “I feel like it keeps us organized as well,” Gretchen said. Their favorite online wedding tool is Pinter- est. “Because Sydney is finishing up college and not at home, we needed a way to share
