‘A few months back, I was to play a 100-metre sprinter in a commercial film and to make it as believable as possible, I took up a training regimen that sprinters do. The result speaks for itself!’ All these different styles have been conducive for my development and my method. If you had to name one person to whom you could credit your success in the entertainment world, who would it be? If it has to be only one, then I think I’ll take my own name. Only I can determine how far I can go, no one else. In the end, I am responsible for my success and my failures, my victory and my defeat. How did you start modelling and what is the one thing you enjoyed about it? And since your appearances on the ramp have taken a back seat do you miss it? It all started when my mother paid to get my portfolio done by Ather Shahzad. They had an eye for good talent, and in a way, the circle is complete as we do this feature with them today. It’s been quite a journey and my formative years as a model played a pivotal role to where I am today. Though there are a few similarities, the training of a model is different from the training of an actor. I have some fond memories about my modelling and ramp days as it made me travel the world and gave me a lot of exposure. Do I miss it? Well, not really as it’s something I still do but it’s more personality oriented now. Tell us about your fitness journey and how far you have come? Growing up, all I wanted to be was a sportsman as any kind of athletic activity came very naturally to me. My idols were Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and Andre Aggasi to name a few. Now, I’m fascinated about how similar an actor is to an athlete. Fitness is the basis for both professions; both ‘perform’ for their respective audiences. I can proudly say that for the last few years, I’ve taken my fitness to a whole new level, treating this discipline as the foundation to everything I have achieved so far. A few months back, I was to play a 100-metre sprinter in a commercial film and to make it as believable as possible, I took up a training regimen that sprinters do. The result speaks for itself! What are your favourite sports? Which game do you play or follow regularly? I have never been able to determine what sports I love more; football, cricket or tennis. I used to play and follow both but now time constraints don’t allow for that luxury. Music and cinema? Tell us about your tastes and favourites? I take stimulus from my music idols. Queen: I say is a part of me and will always be. Jon Bon Jovi is someone I regard as a father figure. I have been a cult follower of Guns N’ Roses and recently saw them live at their Not in This Lifetime tour – a childhood What Fitness Means to Emmad Irfaani Daily fitness habit you would never give up To consistently push myself One must have food in your diet Whey protein and multivitamins Wellness Mantra Nurture the mind and body Fitness goals you met recently Achieved a six percent body fat level Ultimate Fitness Goal Perfect balance of the mind, body and soul Emmad keeps it simple in a signature black polo tee by Gul Ahmed.
