Govt . plans to invest in trauma Centre of Excellence

The Health ministry is seeking technical assistance from Japan to establish trauma centre of excellence to address the rising cases of injuries through road accidents .
Cabinet Secretary , Cleopa Mailu disclosed that the centre will offer training and research opportunities for Kenyans and serve as a centre of excellence in the region .
Dr Mailu made the remarks when the Japanese Minister of Health , Labour and Welfare , Mr Yasuhisa Shiozaki led a delegation to his office last week .
Dr Mailu expressed concern over the rising cases of Non-Communicable Diseases ( NCDs ) due to changing lifestyles which has led to many deaths due to late detections .
He stressed that the Kenya consitution guarantees access to quality health services to all and urged the Japanese government to use her experience to support the country to attain universal health coverage for its citizens .
He thanked the Japanese Government , through JICA , for assisting the country in laying the foundation of the health infrastructure at the Kenya Medical Research Institute ( KEMRI ), Level Five Hospitals , and in the area of strengthening vaccine cold chain systems which has enabled Kenya to improve her health outcomes .
The Japanese Minister said his country is ready to share experience with Kenya in the area of Universal Health coverage which is both a social and health issue .
