2017 HEB ISD INDUCTEES
The Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District hosted the tenth annual Hall of Fame Banquet and inducted five new members in front of a banquet room of well-wishers . The first Hall of Fame winners were inducted in 2008 as part of the District ’ s 50th anniversary celebration . The following individuals were inducted into the HEB ISD Hall of Fame November 11 , 2017 . Each member was inducted into one of five categories .
DR . CHRISTOPHER H . HARRIS DISTINGUISHED L . D . BELL GRADAUTE
Christopher H . Harris is a music educator , conductor , performer , and choral composer . He is the founder of the Houston Master Singers and has served as the Assistant Director for the Houston Ebony Opera Guild . He is a published composer with many accolades , including winner of both the Eastern and National Divisions of the 2013 National Association for Music Education Composition Competition , and Grand Prize Winner of the 2016 Ithaca College Choral Composition Competition . In 2017 , he composed music for a piece for the L . D . Bell High School acapella choir , in memory of their choir president .
JIM GRIFFIN DISTINGUISHED COMMUNITY LEADER
Jim Griffin is Mayor of the City of Bedford and a lifelong community volunteer . He was an inaugural member of the Trinity Trojan Mentor Program and served as Trinity ’ s Basketball Booster President . He continues to support the community through numerous service leadership positions , including Chairman of the HEB ISD Education Foundation , Chairman of the HEB Economic Development Foundation , President of Mid Cities Basketball league , and member of the executive board of the HEB Chamber of Commerce .
JOY BUSEY DISTINGUISHED FORMER EMPLOYEE
Joy Busey spent forty-two years in HEB ISD as a teacher , principal , assistant superintendent , and mentor . She humbly took every opportunity to improve herself in order to serve children and teachers better . Busey valued education and put children first in all decisions . After defeating Acute Myeloid Leukemia and experiencing a bone marrow transplant , she returned to work side by side with teachers and principals , doing what gave her true joy in the school district that was her home .
DR . KYLE D . EDGINGTON DISTINGUISHED TRINITY GRADUATE
Kyle D . Edgington is vice president for development and alumni relations at The University of Texas at Dallas . Since joining the University in 2008 , he has served as associate vice president , assistant dean for development , and visiting clinical professor . During his tenure at UT Dallas , Edgington secured the two largest alumni gifts in the institution ’ s history , resulting in the naming of the Naveen Jindal School of Management and the Davidson Management Honors Program .
SANDY STEVES
DISTINGUISHED VOLUNTEER
Sandy Steves became a full time volunteer as her children entered HEB ISD schools . She has consistently held leadership positions in the PTAs of Meadow Creek Elementary , Harwood Junior High , and Trinity High School and the HEB Council of PTAs . Steves has served the community as a mentor to high school students , a member of the Parent Advisor Board for the Special Education Department , and as a graduate of the Board Ambassador Academy . Her volunteer work for the school district has exceeded 1000 hours in a year .
