Trojan Family Rallies to Save a Life
Adapted from an article by Alyson Cram , Senior
In late February , as students were filling the stands for the pep rally , drum line member James Nicholson , a junior , was fighting for his life .
He was walking down the stairs in Trinity High School ’ s “ A ” building when he suddenly collapsed . His heart had stopped with no warning .
Luckily , people were around when the incident occurred , and they scrambled to get help . Nurse Julie Dowden rushed to the scene and performed CPR immediately . Dowden , with the help of seniors Sierra Flores , Allyssa Lawrence , and Kristen Williams , saved Nicholson ’ s life .
“ I was so focused the entire time . I felt like God was telling me exactly what to do ,” Lawrence said .
Nicholson was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital HEB where he was stabilized . He was then moved to Cook Children ’ s Hospital for surgery to place a pacemaker to act as a defibrillator in the event his heart stops again .
The students who helped at the scene have teamed up to help offset Nicholson ’ s medical costs by selling candy on campus .
Nicholson has returned to school and says , “ This whole thing has been crazy . It is not something that you would ever expect to happen to you , but I am feeling better now . I feel just fine .”

Oh the Places They ’ ve Gone & They ’ ll Go !

When they are involved in teams , organizations , or groups , many L . D . Bell High School students have the opportunity to travel for competition or to gain specialized experience . This year ’ s trips have taken students to some interesting places . For example , this fall the football team and cheerleaders played in the brand new Cowboys ’ facility at Ford Center , The Star . The band travelled to San Antonio multiple times . In February , tournaments brought the baseball team to Round Rock , the softball team to Pearland , and the wrestling team to Houston !
Where will they go next ? This spring , the choir is going to Chicago . The Raiderettes will be going to New York City to increase their dance experience .
New York City will also host our Symphony Orchestra when they play at Carnegie Hall on June 18 .
We ’ re proud of our “ little ambassadors ” from L . D . Bell HS . They have participated , played , and raised funds in order to go . In the words of Dr . Seuss , “… get on your way !”
