#HEBISD What’s happening around the district In December, the L.D. Bell Gymnastics team held their annual Toys for Tots Invitational. Athletes, coaches, and spectators were asked to bring new, unwrapped toys for local underprivileged children. Over 100 toys were collected and given to West Hurst Elementary. 26 Over the weekend of December 4-5, the Trinity High School debate team competed against 1,400 students from 130 schools at the University of Texas at Austin. Each Trinity Trojan debater won at least one of the four rounds he or she participated in. Lakewood is a proud participant in the Fuel UpTo Play 60 movement. Students have joined the Student Advisory Team along with their PE Teachers and will be selecting healthy eating plays and activity plays for the entire school to participate in. Each year, local rotary clubs team up to provide “gazetteer” dictionaries to all HEB ISD third graders. The Rotarians spent time in each classroom to share their mission of reaching out to help serve the community. Hannah Sharp of Bedford Heights Elementary and Neel Patel of Hurst Jr. High won first and second place in the HEB ISD-Area Star-Telegram Spelling Bee. Hannah will compete against students from other local schools.
