Fast Facts about Pennington Field: Seats about 12,000 Opened in the fall of 1987 Named after Fred Pennington , head football coach at L.D. Bell from 1959 - 1962 Hosted 10 State Championship football games and the boys and girls Regional Soccer Tournament Hosts an average of 150 football games a year, including as many as 15 high school playoff games s In addition to the football field, Pennington Field houses two large gymnasium for gymnastics. The Hoot Smith Center has served as polling place for local, state, and national elections The parking lots have been used for driver education programs, school bus certifications, motor cross, and many community events The two-tiered press box can accommodate dozens of reporters and collegiate scouts. This year you can see a very tangible result of these partnerships at Pennington Field, thanks to a donation from Texas Health H-E-B. The stadium’s new video board had its official debut on Friday, September 1, and is operated by a team of dedicated employees who have worked hard to create a Friday Night Lights experience for our community. The dedication and contributions of the HEB ISD Education Foundation and Texas Health H-E-B make our schools amazing and inspire our kids to work hard. We appreciate their work toward helping to build a solid foundation for life long achievement and collaboration with the community for a lifetime of health and well-being. 5
