Gives to Others in a Big Way

For the past 50 years, Donna Park Elementary has
carried on a tradition of giving. Our families are very
serious about helping the community, and for many
years we have focused our support on the Black and
Blue Showdown. This event, hosted by 6 Stones,
engages the schools in friendly competition to raise
the most food donations for local food pantries.
Donna Park families support this event in a variety
of ways – from going door to door to encourage
neighbors to take part, to bringing collection boxes
to work. The donations are carried into the school by
smiling students who are proud that they helped. In
2015, more than 72,000 food items were donated by
our generous community.

New Flexible Seating Program is a Success

Fall in love with your new smile!
Harrison Lane Elementary is implementing a new
program in third grade this school year to improve
student achievement. The program is called Flexible
Seating, and it has given our students the opportunity
to learn in their best environment. Students have the
freedom to find comfortable spaces around the room
when they are working. Options include rocking,
standing, kneeling, working with a clipboard, or sitting
at a desk with an exercise ball. Research has proven
that students work best and focus better when they
are comfortable and are provided options.
Our students have embraced this initiative with
enthusiasm! With clear expectations and continuous
