The letters are not perfectly straight, or even perfectly aligned and centered, but they are balanced enough and convey just the right amount of idiosyncrasy. When I waxed the drawers, I used a brush that had a little bit of red paint on it. This gave a blush to a few of the words, adding to the interest. The mismatching metal handles also contribute to the uniqueness of the piece. I painted directly over them and sanded them lightly, so that some of the original metal shows through.
