Jade explains their restricted budget (of around
£500 a room) has meant they “have had to be
creative with solutions and have ended up with
things that nobody else will own”. Indeed she’s
most proud of how “the house is full of quirks,
some intentional but many by chance”. Jade’s
favourite places to shop for new pieces are Ardingly
Antiques Market, The Conran Shop, Heals and of
course local charity shops.
the Blades also love to entertain, their cuisine,
eclectic like their interiors, is usually a mix of
Mediterranean and Caribbean food to a soundtrack
of jazz.
With the popularity of the upcycling trend
showing no signs of slowing down any time
soon, it looks like 2014 will bring even bigger and
brighter things for Out of the Dark and the lives
that they light up.
Given their long hours with Out of the Dark, time
at home is precious and the family love to potter
