It ’ s February and many people are planning spring break getaways or long weekends away . Here are four great Canadian destinations that should be on everyone ’ s must see list .
# 1 . Algonquin Provincial Park : The first Provincial Park in Canada , Algonquin Park is an amazing place , and for those who enjoy winter sport , especially so . From the gorgeous views to the many fulfilling outdoor activities , like cross-country skiing , snowshoeing , winter camping and wildlife watching , the park is 7,653 sq . kms of pristine beauty and wonder . The visitor centre is open year round and can provide information in general about the park and great advice on where to find trails and see specific wildlife .
# 2 . Ottawa , ON : Our National Capital , Ottawa is an amazing sight most of the year but a treasure to behold in winter . The Rideau Canal Skateway is a 7.8-kilometre long skating rink , designated by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World ’ s largest skating rink . With no charge for admission , there are change huts , skate rental shacks and snack stations all along its length . Also Feb 3-20 is the winter celebration Winterlude , with events happening each weekend like Ice Carving competitions , live music , and this year is the first annual Ice Dragon Boat Festival .
# 3 . West Edmonton Mall , Edmonton , AB : Until 2004 , the West Edmonton Mall was the largest mall in the world . It boasts the world ’ s largest indoor amusement park , the largest indoor roller coaster , the largest indoor lake and the largest indoor waterpark . Galaxyland ( the amusement park ), World Waterpark ( the waterpark ), the Sea Life Caverns ( the indoor lake with Sea Lions and many other sea creatures ) and Ed ’ s Recreation Centre ( an immense entertainment complex ) there is enough to keep the whole family entertained .
# 4 . Whistler , BC : This fantastic Ski Resort hosted the alpine portions of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games . With over 2 million people visiting annually it is a popular winter destination . Primarily enjoyed for its alpine skiing and snowboarding , even the least athletic of us can get lost in the beautiful landscape of the Rockies .
