Five Tips for Spring
Cleaning
&
Keep your home shining all
season long
By Annette Racond, Staff Writer
It’s about time to start thinking about
spring cleaning. Here are five tips to get
you going. There’s no place like home,
so keep it shining!
Keep Like Things Together: Keep
all your cleaning solutions together so
you’re not scrambling to find what you
need for a given task. Keep your sewing
equipment, tools and important papers
together so you can find what you
need in the minimal amount of time. If
you stay on top of keeping like things
together, you won’t have to partake in
frustrating scavenger hunts every time
you can’t locate something. You’ll know
exactly where to look.
Prepare to Repair: Keep up with
small repairs, whether that means sewing buttons on your favorite sweaters
or putting taps on your shoes to keep
them in tiptop shape. This way, your
winter clothes and shoes will be ready
to wear once the cold weather strikes
again next year. If you take care of small
repairs as they arise, you won’t be bombarded with long to-do lists later.
First Things First: Tackle one room
at a time so you can enjoy the fruits of
your labor. When you see a clean room,
it will propel you to take on the next
one on the list. Start with the smallest
room. Getting the process going will
give you the momentum to take on the
more challenging rooms in your house.
Before you know it, your home will
sparkle and you’ll be ready to welcome
guests during the upcoming season.
Bottom Heavy: Work from the top
down to avoid getting what you’ve just
cleaned dirty again. For example, dust
the highest bookshelf first so debris
falls to the ground. Do the same when
you’re dusting figurines, collectibles,
books and other items. The last place
you clean will be the floor, so all the
dust and dirt will accumulate down
below.
Multitask: While your clothes are in
the washing machine, clean the dishes
or put away your winter clothes. Make
a list of what needs to be done and
figure out the best strategy to tackle
each chore. Instead of wasting time,
keep busy and cross off each chore after
it’s completed. You’ll feel a sense of
accomplishment each time a given task
is checked off the list.
