SBL Women & Children’s Center Enhances Experience.
Ask any mom about her experiences giving birth and she will
likely give you a full, play-by-play account, down to the smallest
detail.
To make the birth experience even more memorable, Sarah Bush
Lincoln’s Women & Children’s Center is bringing together cutting-
edge medical technology with spa-like amenities.
“Our goal is to offer as many options as possible, so that
expectant moms can customize their birth experience,” said SBL
Women & Children’s Director Cindy Rivas, RN, “We want
expectant parents to be able to plan their ideal delivery setting –
from what music is playing to who they want in the room.”
The Center is currently modernizing its nine labor and deliver
suites. Each room includes its own bathroom, a newborn bathing
sink, open storage, flat screen television, and comfortable seating
with a couch that converts to a sleeper. The rooms are spacious,
and fully equipped with technology, allowing doctors and nurses
to monitor mother and baby before, during and after birth.

All birthing suites are completely private with moms staying in
the same room for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care.
“We want expectant moms to feel at home while they’re also
surrounded by loved ones and medical professionals who they
know and trust,” Rivas said.
“We are dedicated to providing family-centered care,” Rivas
added. “We look forward to welcoming new moms and their
babies and continuing best practices like offering skin-to-skin
contact between newborns and mothers for at least an hour
immediately after birth.” Each year approximately 1,000 women
give birth at Sarah Bush Lincoln.
The first two remodeled suites are now in use, and completion
of the entire remodel is expected in June. Tours of the renovated
labor and delivery rooms will be offered during the “Bumps,
Burps, & Giggles” baby and children’s fair at Sarah Bush
Lincoln on June 25.
