Russ Brian BRANZELL WILLIAMS Rise of the Machines Leading the next wave of healthcare transformation Crystal Maze Teamwork in digital health is an innovation President and CEO CHIME The audience will learn what qualities of leadership and collaboration are necessary to thrive in the changing environment of care that will include Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things and the connections between them. 22 Page The first presenter up, Russ captivated the room, sharing his views on the rise of the machines and the implications for HIT leadership. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, social networking platforms and wearable technology are all now in use in healthcare. What will this quantum change mean to healthcare and what can HIT executives do to direct their organizations into effective adoption and use of these powerful new capabilities? Russ reviewed healthcare technology from the past to the present, including the importance of the human factor, finishing up with a quote from Bill Gates: ‘We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten.’ What change will come and how will we engage with it? Director PWC, Global Health Team Coming from PWC’s global health team, Brian focussed on the importance of team work in digital health and how that is crucial to innovation. Evolution from fee for service to value/outcomes is forcing healthtech companies to re-assess where and how value is captured leading to collaborative relationships within and across the industry to meet consumer and payor demands. Healthcare tech organisations must reassess where & how to capture value along the care continuum. Some companies have taken 1st step to successful collaboration by forging partnerships across the healthcare value chain - creating better solutions for treating patients. Partnership strategy and management will be key to success. Technology will fundamentally transform healthcare, but to be successful healthcare most importantly needs to change how it delivers and engages with consumers. Page 23
