A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
FREDERICK V. SCHOCH
W
elcome to the 54th edition
of the Head Of The Charles
Regatta! As I enter year
twenty-eight at the helm of this great
event, some things have changed re-
markably and some remain constant.
Over the years the regatta has grown
tremendously, both in number of
athletes and our supporting sponsors,
but one thing has never changed: the
regatta has always been - and will
always be - a reunion for old friends
to reconnect, and a place to form new
friendships. It’s worth repeating that
it is these relationships that make the
sport of rowing so unique.
The backbone of the Regatta
organization is our fine leadership.
Starting with our committed Board
of Directors, led by Katherine Kirk,
and supported by scores of others on
the Race Committee, headed by Nick
Lloyd and Courtney Wilson. These
individuals make the event special.
Behind the scenes, I also want to rec-
ognize my hardworking full-time staff:
Tom Martin, our CFO; Mason Cox,
Assistant Director; Priscilla Livings-
ton, Director of Operations; and, Katie
Donnelly, Operations Assistant. A
special thanks goes out to retiring Di-
rector of Operations, Brendan Mulvey,
for his many years of service.
Of note, BNY Mellon Investment
Management returns in 2018 as our
Presenting Sponsor and the official
investment services partner of the
Head Of The Charles Regatta. BNY
Mellon, passionate believers in the val-
ues taught by rowing, will also provide
trophies for the fastest college crews
in the Men’s and Women’s Champion-
ship Eights. Our special thanks go
out to BNY Mellon CEO of Investment
Management, Mitchell Harris, for his
support.
Brooks Brothers, the Official Pre-
mium Apparel Sponsor of the HOCR,
will again offer two retail shops along
the river, where they will sell co-
branded clothing that we are sure will
be popular with all attendees. Its tents
draw large crowds of students, par-
ents, and alumni all weekend long, and
it has become a fall tradition to stock
up on the latest co-branded HOCR-
Brooks’ long-sleeves and rugby shirts.
Alexandria Real Estate Equities
and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care join
the HOCR as new Premier Spon-
sors for 2018. Appropriate for the fall
season, Harvard Pilgrim will have a
bicycle-powered apple cider press at
the Weld Exhibition venue. Be sure to
OPPOSITE
Traffic jam at Weeks
Bridge.
