last 10 strokes A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FREDERICK V. SCHOCH T his year is a particularly significant one for me, as it marks my 25th year as executive director of the event. When I reflect on the last quarter of a century, I am proud of the progress we have made in developing the Regatta and making it an example for other races to follow. Just as important, I cherish all the many fond memories of working side by side with other passionate rowers who band together to help host this epic Regatta. It is this collaborative spirit that makes the event a success. The leadership provided by the HOCR board of directors is to be commended along with scores of other individuals who have dedicated decades of imagination and toil to running this race. We are very excited this year to announce the sale of our recently completed book, The Head Of The Charles Regatta: First 50. This stunning, coffee-table quality book not only gives a colorful pictorial history of past Regatta highlights, but it also provides a sometimes playful and concisely written history authored by John Powers, longtime Boston Globe sports writer. Please stop by one of our sales kiosks selling the official book on site and either order one to be mailed to your home or carry it off with you this weekend. Another exciting addition this year is an off-shoot of last year’s 50th Gala Reception and Dinner. Due to the overwhelming success of the gathering in ‘14, the board has authorized a new event on Saturday evening. There will be a reception for the entire rowing community and PHOTO: MASON D COX PRESENTED BY BNY MELLON our friends in the AttagerRow tent, located at the FALS area just upstream of the Eliot Bridge.
