Welcome to the 46th edition of the Head Of The Charles Regatta . It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to Boston and this weekend ’ s activities . On behalf of the Regatta ’ s five Managing Directors — Katherine Kirk , John Lambert , Chuck Pieper , Roger Borggaard , and me — as well as the office team of CFO Tom Martin , executive director Fred Schoch , director of operations Lib Diamond and assistant director Mason Cox , we are excited to share our love of rowing with you this fall season .
The 2009 HOCR will forever be remembered as the year of the Great Eights filled with international rowing luminaries and of the culminating , end-of-theday , surprise snow squall on Sunday .
The drama of the men ’ s Great Eight flying up the course , rudderless from about Magazine Beach onward , and its concluding arm-drenching steering job by a brave and brilliant coxswain on the Cambridge Boat Club turn will be indelibly sketched in our minds . How could they have possibly won with such drag-inducing navigation ?
