Welcome to Huntingdon Drama Club’s production of
From Mafeking to the Millennium
Huntingdon and the World in the 20th Century
With this year being the 800th anniversary of Huntingdon receiving
its charter, the town’s history has been very much in the news. It
was against this background that the Club decided to put on From
Mafeking to the Millennium, infotainment tracing the history of
Huntingdon – and the rest of the world – in the last century.
Ann Monk and I originally created the show for the St Barts
Readers and Singers in 1999, and we’ve really enjoyed rewriting it
on a much larger scale for Huntingdon Drama Club.
As Chair, I’m particularly pleased that the production has brought
in so many new Club members, and I hope they’ll all stay with us.
Everyone has worked very well together as a team – both old and
new members, actors and behind-the-scenes people, and I’d like
to thank everyone for the major contribution they’ve made.
This is Ann Monk’s first experience of both producing and acting,
and she’s succeeded brilliantly on both counts. On the production
side, she’s had tremendous help from several people, in particular
Caroline Harbord and Richard Meredith, and I’d like them to know
that the work they’ve done is very much appreciated. Ideas for how
to stage the show have evolved out of discussions that Ann and I
had with John Morgan. It’s thanks to him that that we’ve achieved
so much on the technical side.
I hope you find both entertainment and interesting information in
From Mafeking to the Millennium, and have a really enjoyable
evening.
Chair of Huntingdon Drama Club, and director of From Mafeking to
