2018 Year in review
W
nearly 300 dedicated public servants work hard every day to make
our criminal justice system better.
e are making progress on the path
of criminal justice reform in
Hillsborough County. I am proud
of our progress in 2018. We are
advancing our core mission of
public safety, fairness, and justice. We are embracing
methods to lessen the impact of low-level, non-violent
offenders on an already overburdened criminal justice
system. We are dedicating our resources to prosecuting and
convicting violent criminals who are a threat to public
safety. As we close the second year of my administration,
I am pleased to report to you on our efforts:
Prosecutorial:
• We implemented the Reduced Impaired Driving
Program (RIDR) to address the plague of
drunk/impaired driving in our county. This program
aggressively targets and reduces impaired driving
through enhanced sanctions like alcohol monitoring
devices and an education program for first-time
offenders who have not injured a person or property.
