Lawyers Pay Their Rent to Society
We need to change the narrative from lawyer jokes and snide remarks
to one of respect for the profession and an understanding of all the
great things lawyers have done and do every day in our society.

n June 8, 2017, I had the
honor of being installed as
President of this great
Association. This event
was made extra special by
the fact that I am following in the footsteps
of both my father and brother — Ben
Hill III and Ben Hill IV — as President of
the HCBA.
Many people have joked that being
active in the HCBA must be a “family
tradition.” I guess they are right, but few
know why. Our commitment to service
stems from the legacy handed down to us
from my grandfather, Ben Hill, Jr. He
taught us that civic responsibility is “paying
the rent” for the space you take up in this
