HAZARDVILLE MEMORIAL SCHOOL 68 North Maple Street Enfield, CT 06082 TELEPHONE: (860) 763-7501 and FAX: (860) 763-7507 www.enfieldschools.org JAMES GRAHAM, Principal Mr. Graham, Principal Greetings HMS Families, It’s hard to believe that we are already on the cusp of December and within a few short weeks we’ll be turning the page in the calendar over to 2016! As we continue to march through autumn with our eyes on the approaching winter, I’d like to highlight a few important items to keep in mind: 1) Dressing for the weather this time of year can be tricky with morning temperatures in the twenties and afternoon temperatures in the forties and fifties. Please help your child make good clothing choices to ensure that they are comfortable throughout the school day. Layering is the best way to go so that as they go through their day they have the option of adding or shedding layers to maintain their comfort. 2) With the coming of colder weather we will inevitably see mornings with snow and ice. With snow and ice we will most likely run into school delays and closings. Although rare, there is also the possibility of an unplanned weather related early dismissal. If you are not currently receiving updates from EPS via our phone alert system, please make sure to sign up on the EPS website so that we can alert you if these events occur. 3) Student attendance is also on everyone’s mind this time of year. As cold and flu season arrive, please be sure to review the attendance policy presented in the blue EPS Elementary School Handbook that was sent home with every student at the beginning of the year. The policy can be found on pages 39-41 and describes the types of absences and the procedures to follow when absences occur. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school so that we can address them. Each and every employee at HMS is honored to be a part of your child’s educational experience and working with you to make it the best possible experience is important to us. Sincerely, Principal Graham PRE-KINDERGARTEN Mrs. Wood: Time flies when you are having fun in preschool. We had a busy first month of school filled with fun. During this time, students engaged in a variety of games, songs, and movement during circle time and learning centers in order to help them get to know their peers. Children learned and reviewed how to use different classroom materials, explore different centers around our room, and began to understand the rules and expectations of our classroom. Some centers include, housekeeping, Legos, trains, dollhouse, puppets, computers, sand, play-dough, and much more. Each week your child will learn a new letter. We have learned the letters P and B. You will continue to receive a letter card and on the back will be the story that goes along with our lively letters program so you can practice with your child at home. The next letters we will learn will be T,D,F, and V. We will incorporate a variety of learning activities around our letters and October Apples and Pumpkins theme. The themes for November will be Fall and Trees. If there is anything to do with the themes that your child would like to bring to school to share, for example, pine cones, seeds, pictures of your child apple picking etc, feel free to send it in.
