NOTE: 1. Any child or teacher who has legitimate reason for not saluting the flag for religious or moral reasons need not do so, but must refrain in a respectful manner. Board of Education policy requires all students to stand respectfully facing the flag, except those with legitimate religious or moral objections. The parent/legal guardian of any pupil who refuses to salute the flag shall be so informed by the Principal, and any such parent/guardian will be required to furnish a written statement of the pupil‘s religious or conscientious objection. 2. A prayer of any kind, silent or oral, or the reading of the Bible as part of the opening exercise, is prohibited. 3. The classroom teacher is responsible for carrying out the exercise program. 31
