life & style Windsor Rotary ready to raise funds Since 1956, the Rotary Club of Windsor has been working within our community, supporting individuals and organisations, either through physical labour or financial support. During the 1980’s members put their labours to building specially designed premises for the Stimulus Early Intervention program for young children. In the 90’s a new picket fence was erected around McQuade Park Oval. More recently, they have undertaken the beautification of Streeton Lookout overlooking the Hawkesbury River at Freemans Reach. The Club has also organised Mental Health Forums to raise the awareness of mental health issues. Since 2011, members have been working to rid our area of graffiti and to reward companies and employees for excellence of service, the Pride of Workmanship awards is an annual event. Throughout the 80’s and early 90’s, members sold spent mushroom compost to raise funds for the establishment of the Windsor Rotary Youth Foundation Trust. The Trust was created to assist the youth of the Hawkesbury and to date in excess of $170,000 has been granted to help athletes achieve their goals, others to complete their education and those with a disability to enjoy a better life. Over the years, the Club has also provided financial assistance to many organisations and needy individuals. A major fund raising event in recent years has been the annual Charity Race Day at Hawkesbury Race Club, Clarendon. First held in 2014, following a suggestion from former member and Past President John Gollan, the Rotary Club of Windsor Charity Race Day has raised over $120,000 for distribution to charities and organisations, including Westmead Children’s Medical Research Institute, Children’s Cancer Institute, local Peppercorn Services, as well as the Club’s own Youth Foundation Trust and local community projects.
