Friday, November 7, 2013 brought to a close the 7th Annual Trick or Treat for
Cans Project. The Mill Creek HS Beta Club gathered 10,328 cans and nonperishables for Streetwise, a local food bank that directly serves the Mill Creek
community. From October 21-Nov 7, students went door-to-door in your
neighborhoods and "trick or treated" for cans. Our goal was to beat last year's
total of 7,000. Based on your generosity this year during our annual project,
the 9th and 10th grade members gathered 5,634 items, and the 11th-12th grade
members gathered 4,694 items, for a grand total of 10,328 items. All the items
will go to help feed families in a 10-mile radius of our school, just in time for
the holidays. Beta Club is a national service-based honor society, and members
must maintain a cumulative average of 90 or above before they are even allowed to apply; once accepted, Beta Club members pledge to complete a set
amount of community service hours per semester. The Mill Creek Beta Club is
sponsored by Deidre Konczakowski and Ashley Procter. The club is led by President Timothy Le, Vice-President Austin Mead, Secretary Ashley Hodges, and
Treasurer Kelly Ahern.
