W
elcome to the summer
edition of Kitchen
Magazine. It has certainly
been a year of extreme
weather. Only a couple of
months ago we were knee
deep in snow with the beast from the east
sending temperatures plummeting. The
hottest May Day bank holiday on record
then followed but now (fingers crossed) the
temperatures are rising and more settled
weather is the order of the day.
This issue takes us out of the kitchen
and into the great outdoors, well the back
garden at least! We talk barbecues, picnics
and hydration plus ice cream, lollies and
slushies for when the temperatures soar.
James Martin is our celebrity chef this
issue. His restaurant and cookery school
at Chewton Glen in the New Forest is also
called Kitchen – he must have good taste!
See what he’s cooking up on p. 24.
Discover the history of leading Italian
kitchen appliance manufacturer Smeg.
Their retro lines and pastel shades
embody the glamour of the 50s and are
much sought after. Interestingly this
company, run by the third generation of
the Bertazzoni family, started life as a
blacksmiths. Doesn’t that sound familiar?
We hope you enjoy this edition as much
as we have putting it together. If there is
anything you would like us to feature in
future editions please drop me a line, I’d
love to hear from you.
