When it comes to options at home , the fact is coffee pod machines are the easiest , quickest way to get a good cup of espresso . You don ’ t need to know any of the barista ’ s dark arts or to concern yourself with the grind of your single origin beans . It ’ s a method that favours the still-half-asleep , the stupidly busy and those coffee addicts who just want a great cup without any hassle .
You simply pop a single-serve capsule or pod into the machine , press a button and wait half a minute for your espresso . It only gets complicated because some makes of pod can only be used in some machines . Brands like Nespresso let manufacturers make compatible machines for their capsules and there are differences in variety , availability and cost of the capsules .
As well as this , when considering what to buy it ’ s also worth thinking about how many cups you ’ ll be making and look at the capacity of the machine . If it ’ s a couple a day , a smaller machine would do the job and take up less precious worktop space .
And don ’ t forget the milk . If you favour lattes and cappuccinos , you will want to look at models that froth it for you or at least come bundled with a stand alone frother .
The gadget obsessed will want to investigate machines that connect to dedicated phone apps to provide more information and control . Whatever you decide , one thing is certain , good coffee will come quicker and easier , and we ’ ll all drink a double shot to that .
