HAPPENING AT HARTS Jon Dart takes us through the latest news and events from Harts of Stur

Say Cheese

We can ’ t quite believe it , but this will be the third year that we are sponsoring and running the Mouse Trap Food Demonstration Theatre at the Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival which takes place on the 9th and 10th September . The cheese festival is one of the biggest events of its kind in the south of England and attracts over 50,000 people with its mix of local food , crafts and entertainment , and of course more cheese than you can possibly imagine !
We are adding the final touches to the schedule of top chefs and local food producers that will be appearing in the Mouse Trap Theatre , but are delighted to announce that School of Wok founder , Jeremy Pang will be cooking for us on Saturday . Other highlights to look out for include Mark Hartstone from the award-winning La Fosse at Cranborne , Daniel Ham from Langham Wines and the welcome return of Al Wingate-Saul and his butchery masterclass .
Our store ’ s Open Weekend coincides with the cheese festival , so make sure to pay us a visit . As well as some very special promotions running throughout the weekend , we ’ ll also have plenty of demonstrations going on as well . Jeremy Pang will be with us on Saturday and so will Mal Harradine ( former QVC presenter ) plus experts from KitchenAid , Lavazza and GreenPan .

Flying High

Back in May our daredevil warehouse manager Alan Cavendish embarked on a sponsored wing walk to raise money for Forest Holme Hospice . A brave man indeed , as he ’ s scared of heights !
It ’ s not the first time Alan has put himself forward to raise money for good causes . In 2014 he undertook a charity head shave to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support . Of his latest challenge Alan commented : “ As I ’ m a little bit crazy , I decided to do the wing walk to raise much needed funds for Forest Holme Hospice in Poole . It is a great cause , and sadly one that many of us will need , either for ourselves or for someone we love .”
Due to low cloud and intermittent showers , it was touch and go whether the wing walk would take place , but take place it did and Alan raised a magnificent £ 905 .
Tucked away in the centre of Poole , Forest Holme Hospice provides exceptional individually tailored care to those facing a life-limiting illness across East Dorset . Although an NHS hospice , it is reliant on charitable donations to continue to provide excellent palliative and end of life care . As a result their charity needs to raise over £ 500,000 every year to support the different areas within the hospice .

Awards Season

It won ’ t be long before we are squeezing into our dinner jackets and ball gowns as awards season approaches . Entries have been drawn up and submitted and we are delighted to report that we ’ ve made the final of no less than 12 categories over three separate awards – eCommerce Awards , Blackmore Vale Business Awards and the Excellence in Housewares Awards 2017 .
We are particularly proud that this very magazine has made it to the final of the Excellence in Retail Initiative of the Excellence in Housewares Awards 2017 . Our website and customer service have also been well represented .
Win or lose , it ’ s great to be recognised as being at the top of your game and it ’ s also a fitting testament to the hard work put in by all of the team here throughout the year . Follow our social media channels to find out how we get on .
