THE HISTORY OF LE CREUSET

CASTING A SPELL

Le Creuset have been king of the cast iron throne since 1925 with their classic orange cookware . It ’ s so robust , it will outlast us all …

If the test of a true kitchen icon is being recognised by colour alone , Le Creuset ’ s volcanic orange cookware passes with flaming colours . It ’ s been glowing proudly on hobs and in ovens , or just looking good on the worktop , since 1925 . There couldn ’ t be a more perfect colour for the products , indicating both the heat holding properties of cast iron , and the fiery glow of the molten metal used to make each piece . Recognised worldwide and cherished for its warmth and unbelievable durability , almost a century later all Le Creuset cast iron products are still hand-crafted in the original foundry in Fresnoy-le-Grand , France .

The range has grown hugely and a spectrum of colours have been introduced since then . While Le Creuset have taken advantage of various technological advances , the forging and casting process remains the same , with the pans finished by hand before the high-fired enamelling that makes them so hard wearing . Just as a great chef would never compromise on the quality of their ingredients or time taken to prepare a dish , Le Creuset put together their iron , steel , clay , aluminium and silicone in the same timeless way that has made their cookware such an iconic presence in kitchens around the world .
