If you want simple black coffee for yourself or a crowd, a filter coffee machine is a sound choice.
Great value and easy to use, the quality of coffee can be as good as any other method but with
less cost. They only make no-frills black coffee but make it well, a pot at a time and with the
minimum of fuss.

The Cuisinart Grind & Brew Plus is designed to
produce the ultimate filter coffee, the integrated
burr grinder grinds fresh coffee beans to extract the
maximum flavour from the coffee.
Fully automatic, it can make up to 12 cups of coffee
and is fully programmable, so you can have fresh
coffee waiting for you when you come down in the
morning or ready to be poured after a dinner party.
You can also choose the strength of your coffee,
mild, medium or strong. The Grind & Brew Plus
benefits from a double-wall insulated carafe, which

I think it’s one of the best ways to
make coffee. It’s overlooked but you
can get the best results. You don’t
need sophisticated equipment but
you do need to follow some basic
rules. The most important rule is to
get the right amount of coffee, the
right amount of water, and to have
the correct grind. If it’s too coarse or
too fine it will have a dramatic effect
on the taste. A filter grind is typically
halfway between cafetiere and
espresso. You can brew any coffee as
filter, but it’s at its most interesting
with single origin, particularly those
that aren’t over roasted. The recipe
is 60g coffee per litre of water. One
of the most important tools is a set
of digital scales because you actually
weigh the coffee and the water to
get the right proportion and when
you get it really precise you taste the
coffee not the way you’ve made it
that day.”
