FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR...
Greetings Friends,
Often in the spring, as I am saying goodbye to everyone for the
summer, I am asked, “What can you possibly do to top this year?”
It is a daunting question, and one that I take very much to heart.
So it is with great pleasure that I present you with our 2016/17
Program Guide for the Boca Grande Community Center. This is a
huge team effort – I counted 130 committee members working in
various capacities to plan this program! This program couldn’t
happen without those countless hours of volunteer time. Thank you.

I also want to thank those of you who choose to sponsor our programs. This is what enables us
to grow – we could not afford to bring the outstanding caliber of speakers and entertainers to this
island without your generosity. Thank you.
It will take a team effort to deliver the 2016/17 program, and I invite you to attend our volunteer
reception on December 6 to see how you can help. I also want to take a moment and introduce
you to your newest team member. Jessica Smith started her job as Program Assistant in May,
and is anxious to meet everyone, so please stop by the office to say hello. You might even be
treated with a smile from our junior team member, Evan Frank, who will celebrate his 4-month
birthday as you are reading this. Evan doesn’t get to spend a lot of time in the office, but we
cherish every moment he is here.
Enjoy!

2016/17 PROGRAM GUIDE
GULF COAST BOARD INSTITUTE
Friday, December 2, 2016 | 9:00am – 3:00pm | Woman’s Club Room
No Charge | Pre-Registration Required
New this season, Friends of Boca Grande has partnered with the Gulf Coast Community Foundation
to offer an educational program for nonprofit board members. This training applies to any nonprofit
you may be working with, on or off the island.
Effective nonprofit board leadership and governance is required in order to become a high
performing organization. Without involved, educated, and passionate board members, nonprofits
struggle to reach their full potential. The newly-launched Gulf Coast Board Institute will provide
you with the information and materials you need (as a new or experienced board member) to make
the most valuable contributions to the organizations in which you invest so much of your time.
Topics covered will include legal duties; responsibilities of nonprofit boards; best governance
practices; effective fundraising strategies for board members; and more.
Training is provided by consultants from Invest in Incredible (www.gulfcoastcf.org/news/agenda/
invest-in-incredible-2/), Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s initiative to help nonprofit organizations
strengthen their operational effectiveness and management so they can better meet their mission.
Light breakfast and lunch is included. There is no cost for this workshop, however you must
preregister to assure your spot. If there is interest, additional workshops may be arranged.
