Mona Golabek tells the
story of her mother, Lisa
Jura, who was an aspiring
young pianist in Vienna
just at the dawn of World
War 2. When her beloved
music professor told her
he couldn’t teach her
anymore because she was
Jewish, it shocked her; but
then things got worse and
worse.
t became clear to the family that life will
never be the same and their very exis-
tence was threatened. Her parents man-
aged to get her a seat on a Kindertrans-
port* train to London. In fact, her father
had won her a ticket gambling, since
under the Nazis he was no longer allowed
to practice his profession and sell to non-Jews.
