Why would having two shops rather than one ever be a good idea? Let’s look at a couple of examples:

Example 1:Two Different Jewelry Product Lines

Jacki is a jeweler from South Australia and a member of my artisan community, Tizzit HQ. I am happy to share her work as an example of when it makes sense to have two shops because she has put a lot of thought into it and I think this example will resonate with a lot of you. Both shops are for her jewelry… why not simply have all the products under one Etsy account?

Jacki already had a store called “Jacki’s Little Shop” where she sold LGBTQIAP jewelry and jewelry sets. She gives 10% of her profit back to an organization called Hutt Street Center that helps homeless people in her area.

She had an idea to add more eco-friendly, eco-conscious pieces and collections to her shop and started wondering if it would make more sense to have a separate shop for those instead. After careful consideration, she opened her second shop, “1703 By Jacki,”a shop focused only on quality eco-conscious jewelry. This time, she picked “1% for the planet” as the organization she wanted to give part of her profit back to. Yes, Jacki is an awesome human. :-)

my! The good old “website

vs Etsy” argument. I’ve thought long and hard about whether I should commit to discussing this topic or not. It’s a tough one you guys, and I know many people have strong opinions on the topic, so quite frankly, it felt a bit daunting. But at the end of the day, it is a really important conversation that I believe is never approached in a way that’s beneficial for you, the seller (more on that later), so I think it’s time we dive straight in: do you really need your own website? Or should you just sell on Etsy?
