3. Add Illustrations

or Quotes to Your Images

My favorite Instagram feeds are the ones that alternate beautiful images with illustrations, text, or both. For example, take a look at the Starbucks Instagram account to get an idea of a fresh and diverse Instagram feed. Especially as a small business, your aim should be to create posts that are shareable. And what’s more shareable than a funny, clever, or inspiring quote?

A quick guide to designing quotes for Instagram:

1. Search Canva for quote templates

2. Pick your background image (or color)

3. Pick your quote

4. Copy the quote into your canvas

5. Adjust your font, line height, and letter spacing

6. If you chose a single-colored background, add shapes or lines to make your quote

stand out

While graphic designers spend years studying how different fonts complement each other, Canva wouldn’t be Canva if they didn’t think of a shortcut. Their font pairing tool allows you to search for the perfect combinations for some of Canva’s most popular fonts and even highlights examples from actual websites!
