Externship at Halifax Health
Halifax Health - Family Medicine Residency Program is fully
accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical
Education (ACGME). The Family Medicine Externship Program for
fourth year medical students is a flexible rotation providing clinical
exposure to various aspects of family medicine. Length of
externship and assignments are arranged on an individual basis to
best accommodate the needs of each student. Externs are
encouraged to take advantage of the full range of family medicine
educational experiences available at Halifax Health. Under the
supervision of faculty and Residents, externs enjoy direct outpatient
care opportunities in our Center for Family and Sports Medicine and
also experience inpatient services - adult medicine, perinatal care,
and child/adolescent care - from a family medicine perspective.
Regular didactic sessions - AM Report, Noon Conference, Grand
Rounds, Sports Medicine Conference and others - are available to
supplement the clinical experience. Externs may assist our Sports
Medicine Fellow in seasonal coverage of athletic events and/or
accompany faculty and Residents to a nearby homeless shelter to
serve those in need.
