Residency at Halifax Health Halifax Health - Family Medicine Residency Program is designed to meet the individual needs and objectives of each resident. Flexibility is a primary feature of the program. The first year is similar to a rotating internship with about 90 percent inpatient training and 10 percent ambulatory patient care. By the second year, time is divided equally between inpatient and ambulatory care. In the third year, 80 percent of the Resident’s time is spent in outpatient training. Residents are offered a balance of autonomy and supervision, according to need. The curriculum is structured to provide appropriate training in preparation for solo, group or managed-care practices regardless of community size. This real-life medicine in our Center for Family and Sports Medicine is complemented by clinical experiences in private physicians’ offices. Computers are readily available to Residents for easy access to our state-of-the-art electronic health record as well as an extensive electronic medical database and Internet access. Halifax Health is in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the country for the implementation of electronic health records.
