Starting with the illegal market 2017
Even before the repeal of PASPA, on 14 May,
2018, there was a huge illegal market in the US.
H2 does not track illegal markets as standard
but its deep dive research in 2017 found that
nearly $200bn left the country in sports bets
pre-PASPA.
By comparison, this was:
• 42x the legal US sports betting market in the
same year – $4.6bn handle ($0.2bn GGR)
• 1.4x the total amount wagered on the Las
