Advice H-LSAMP is one of the most amazing resources and support systems available to a STEM student. Do not take this for granted. Be confident in yourself and your abilities. It is important to talk to other people who are likeminded, passionate, and want to be successful. If you have a goal, let people know. Most of the time they will help you achieve it. Don’t be afraid to ask for that help when you need it, you don’t have to go through everything on your own. Talk to your mentor! I cannot stress that enough. Find a faculty member and let them know about your interests. Their support will mean a lot someday and they are usually a great place to go to for advice. Talk to your other professors too, you never know when you might need a letter of recommendation. Seek out opportunities and apply to every single one that you believe will help you reach your goals. Don’t overwork yourself if you do not have to. You will probably want to be involved in research or other activities, and it is easier to do well when you have a lighter course load. Know your limits, but never give up. Nobody is perfect and everyone messes up at some point. The important thing is to move on and always remember all of the things you have accomplished. No matter what happens even if you have a bad semester, things will work out. You are capable of whatever you set your mind to and a little determination with some hard work will always pay off.
