So it was the band, the agency and the label.
It was the first time we ever toured nationally.
In 1974 we did ninety dates with BTO, we
played with Aerosmith, Black Oak Arkansas,
you name it. The band formed in October, 1974,
and in 1975 we did 261 dates, and ninety nine
percent of them were one-nighters. Now that
gets you seen by a lot of people. It gets your
band tight. And in the end, when you release a
live album, it explodes like ours did (Live Bullet,
released in 1976).”
Following in the tradition of other Michigan
legends such as Iggy Stooge, Alice Cooper,
Mitch Ryder, Grand Funk Railroad, and Question
Mark and the Mysterians, Bob Seger went
the local band route from bar to bar, town
to town, releasing six singles before one of
them, “Rambling Gambling, Man,” made the
top twenty. “But five of those six were hits in
Detroit,” Bob said. And what price local glory?
“Well, after a local hit we could make about
$500 at the Mt. Holly Ski Lodge.” Then came
