S
ting sees the world through kaleidoscope eyes and the world loves what
he sees. His musical vision reflects
a fusion of experiences, including singing
with jazz legends (Gil Evans) and rock heroes (Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton). He’s
written a Broadway show, The Last Ship, and
has sung with Opera’s finest (Pavarotti). As a
gifted writer of vocal melodies, Sting finds a
way to bring the politically charged message
of “They Dance Alone” to the same audience
that lives on love songs and Grammy winners, like “If I Ever Lose My Faith in You.”
His musical imagination has no boundaries,
few rules, and always great bands to make
it come alive. Echoes of centuries old Spanish classical guitar traditions mingle easily
with the influences of Weather Report or Fats
Domino. In this conversation, Sting examines
the songwriting process that brought him to
his latest recording, 57th and 9th.
