COVER STORY And then front pickup is like a Gibson, a PAF. It’s a Gibson pickup with an Ash body, and it’s like totally killer. It’s a ’51 yeah. It’s when Fender didn’t have a name for what would then become the Telecaster. The Broadcaster had to be ceased and desisted because the Gretsch company had a drum kit named the Broadcaster. Gretsch and Leo (Fender) had a friendly relationship so they quit using Broadcaster. In ‘51 it’s called a Nocaster, which Leo made the employees clip the word, Broadcaster, off the Fender logo, and they just stuck a Fender logo on there. Then in Oct of ’51 is where you see the first Telecasters, because of the invention of television. The Broadcaster became a Telecaster. That is a true historical fact. ■ Joe Bonamassa by Rick Gould A Nocaster is a no name Telecaster? “No Good Place for the Lonely” by Joe Bonamassa (solo starts at 4:55) 44 GUITAR TRICKS INSIDER DIGITAL EDITION OCT/NOV
