efore we became players we started as fans.
So it’s no surprise that some of the world’s
finest guitarists still have music crushes on
their favorite artists. Paul Gilbert, a shredmaster
and founding member of Mr. Big, is a fan of Todd
Rundgren. Many years ago I invited Paul to write about
Todd. This is what you see here. But just recently, and
decades after he wrote this note, Paul emailed me
this: “I just figured out the chords to ‘Bag Lady’ last
night to show to a student. Todd Rules!” I rest my case
