ESSENTIAL ALBUMS TREVOR RABIN by John Stix For most of us, Trevor Rabin exploded onto the world stage as the chief architect of the Yes album 90125, which songs were actually written for his 4 th solo album. But there was a lot of music before Yes. Trevor Rabin was a big- time session musician at the early age of 17, and learned on-the-job working with Mutt Lange. He was also originally invited to join Steve Howe as the second guitarist/vocalist in what became the band Asia. Instead, he stayed with Yes for four studio albums before departing for another life creating film scores. Memorable moments here include scoring movies like Armageddon and Remember the Titans. Rabin also composed music for the NBA and March Madness. Most recently he’s been playing with ARW, which includes those other Yes boys, Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. When asked for a list of essential albums, it’s no surprise he chose guitar masters with both a progressive and cinematic approach to the instrument. ■ 4 GUITAR TRICKS INSIDER DIGITAL EDITION JULY / AUGUST
