guards la aguada trophy L ila Pearson’s Cowdray Vikings won the Guards La Aguada Trophy at La Aguada in early December. The Cowdray Park raiders defeated Willem Melchoir’s La Vanguardia 10-6 in a thrilling final at the La Aguada Polo Club in Open Door, Argentina, the home of the high-goal Novillo Astrada family. The winning patron received the cup from Guards Polo Club Life Playing Member Major Iain Forbes- Cockell. Willem Melchoir did not leave La Aguada empty-handed though as he received the Fair Play Award. This was the sixth running of this 16- goal tournament, which offers UK-based patrons the chance to play with some impressive horsepower, and on great grounds, in the home of the modern game – Argentina. An additional attraction of this tournament is that the teams invariably feature a member of the Novillo Astrada family, bringing some added high- goal glamour to each match. In addition, the tournament is also timed to dovetail around the prestigious Argentine Open, so allowing all of our patrons and pros a chance to watch the final in Palermo, in the heart of Buenos Aires. Of course, with four teams taking part there was also a sub final. This was a much closer contest, featuring Jeremy Pemberton’s Conosco and Jamie Grayson’s SHP. Conosco won the match 6-5 and Pemberton was rewarded with the Most Valuable Player prize. 228 Cowdray Vikings: Lila Pearson (0); Alejandro Pistone (3); Alejandro Novillo Astrada (8); Juan Pedro Harriet (4).
