Chance of a lifetime
Over the course of two weeks in July, 10 Girl Scouts experienced
cascading waterfalls, marveled at awe-inspiring vistas, and
observed fascinating wildlife while working side by side with park
rangers, as the girls participated in environmental stewardship
projects at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.

Katherine Stancil, 14, from Gibsonia, was part of this first-ever, all-
Girl Scout project crew. From July 11 through July 22, Stancil and the
rest of the crew—which included girls from four other Girl Scout
councils—repaired hiking trails, restored habitats, and explored the
park’s natural wonders.
“Enjoying the outdoors is much more than a fun
tradition for Girl Scouts,” says Patricia A. Burkart, CEO
of GSWPA. “Outdoor adventures help girls become
more environmentally aware, explore leadership roles,
and build confidence to try new things.”
We’re making it even easier for
volunteers to get girls outdoors with
the new Outdoor Button, which is part
of the new Volunteer Toolkit.
