Barbara was the first council President of the Girl Scouts of Rhode Island after the statewide consolidation in 1962, and has served in numerous other volunteer capacities since then. She is an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Board of Directors and an active member of the Finance Committee of which she was chair for 2 terms.

Barbara’s introduction to Girl Scouts was in the Minute-Man Public Relations Chair of the Newport County Council, Chair of the Rhode Island Girl Scout Development Committee, and then President of the GSRI Council for 6 years. She was a Girl Scout Trainer at Council and Regional level.

“Since my sudden involvement in Girl Scouting in 1952, I have become convinced that the Girl Scout program indeed has something for everyone, girl and adult, and that the beliefs and principles of the movement are as sound a basis for a useful and creative and satisfying life as one could find.”

Honors: Thanks Badge (1962), World Association Trainer (Jongny, Switzerland, 1968), GSUSA Board of Directors (1969-1978), Thanks Badge II (1987), Mira Hoffman Award (1995), and the Partner in Philanthropy (1996).
